 A recently fledged Common Grackle launches after a parent returning with a mouthful of insects in Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The frantic chase lasts only seconds, but every successful meal helps transform an awkward fledgling into an independent bird. Moments like this are easily missed while paddling quietly through the wilderness, yet they tell the enduring story of summer in the BWCA.
