Challenge: Hidden Faces (Advanced Editing III)
Camera: Panasonic DMC-FZ10

There are thousands of real faces around us that are hidden behind veils, masks, compulsions, burdens, pains. They have so much to say, but ’hidden in deep silence..... ..

My tribute to those hidden faces..

On the editing side, there was just a bit of sharpening, blur and cropping.

Thank you Tim,

Your words are really encouraging. I did not read the challenge details before posting this photograph. It was a terrible negligence on my part. When this mistake was noticed, probably I could have still withdrawn the entry, but decided to show this creation to people contemplating the 'hidden face' of criticism.

Thank you again.. Please comment on my other photographs that are pending for voting in the ongoing challenges.

Regards,

-Avijit.

Greetings from the Critique Club

You have photographed a wonderful portrait with great lighting used although I would have liked to seen the catchlights in the eyes a little less harsh but apart from that it has excellent lighting.

The more I look at this image the more I realize this is a real first class image the hidden and apparent connotations are overflowing in this work. Those beautiful eyes can say many things to many viewers personally I see a hint of sorrow and dreams of far away. The added touch of just the right amount of transparency through the veil has given the image a special quality and has the viewer searching for more.

It is a shame it does not quite meet the challenge guidelines and I feel the voters were a little harsh on such a quality image but the DPC community love to pull out the old “Does not meet the challenge” to decimate good images.

Wishing all the best for future challenges and congratulations on this image.

Kind Regards

Tim Sturt

duh these voters

i hate to disagree, lesley, but i called this as soon as i saw it, and the voters simply followed the spirit of the challenge: The face you submit may not be something that is intended to be a face (that is, not a person, animal, insect, toy or anything else that has a "face").

this is a beautiful image, one that needs to be seen and appreciated. it just shouldn't have been entered in this challenge. better luck next time! just keep on shooting!

edit: added emphasis

An interesting image for sure, but it received the score it deserved in light of the challenge requirements IMHO. Playing around with challenge interpretation is playing with fire: sometimes you get burned. Keep up the good work.

This is a stunning shot! Love the simple elegance of the composition! Great catchlight in the eyes. Just a hint of detail through the veil. Unfortunately it doesn't fit the challenge details...

Maybe I misread the challenge description, but I don't think this is a hidden face within nature that wasn't intended to be a face. Great shot those, I like the catch in the eyes.

Great picture, but I think it is supposed to be a "Waldo" type hidden face.

An interesting take on this challenge. Yes, I know the rules say nothing human but this is more the play on a condition on faces that must remain hid because of cultural predominance. 6

I just can't seem to find the hidden face in this shot. I see the eyes but no nose or mouth. Hmmmm LOL

Nicely done!

If it was possible to give a shot lower then a 1 I would have given it. In my opinion this does not meet the challenge.

Lovely, dramatic, well composed and exposed -- in all a wonderful frame. Here's my dilemma, I've re-read the challenge description and feel this does not fit -- it is a face that's partially hidden but that's not how I read the challenge. It could be a matter of interpretation but I believe this site's contests are all about the challenge topic and while I try to have a broad interpretation (because I, too, dislike getting gigged for "doesn't fit" interpretations) I feel your excellent photo is off-topic. Looooong explaination because I feel the quality of your shot is high and wanted to explain my score. :(

good photo, but is has a person in it.
12/29/2004 03:05:09 PM
Great image! Not sure if it fits the challenge since it's a real face, but it is certainly beautifully captured.

A little soft. I might have used diffused lighting.

It is a great photo, but reading the definition of the challenge I am not sure whether it meets the criteria. (still a 5, great photo)

I believe the rules for this challenge said: "The face you submit may not be something that is intended to be a face (that is, not a person, animal, insect, toy or anything else that has a "face")."
This looks like a person's face to me.
12/28/2004 07:12:06 AM
i'm betting this will be the highest scoring image that does not meet the challenge. it is a great capture, and yes, the face is hidden, but, this is not the type of hidden face specified in the challenge description. it will be interesting to see how this scores in the end...good luck!

It is a beautiful photograph, but I think the rules indicated that it wasn't actually suppossed to be a real person's face, but one hidden someplace else.
12/27/2004 05:49:15 PM
Not suppossed to be human face??
12/27/2004 04:19:20 PM
The face you submit may not be something that is intended to be a face (that is, not a person, animal, insect, toy or anything else that has a "face"). Please read the challenge rules. In another challenge you have a true winner here. An elegant portrait of a beautiful model. I could see this as a ribbon winner if it complied with the instructions. Mysterious, beautifully composed and exposed.

I'm sure a million people already told you: this will not work for this challenge.

Concerning this photograph: good exposure and focus. A bit grainy in the shadows though. Quality of the photo is overall adequate, but you will get voted down for not meeting the challenge requirements.
