 Shot in manual mode using a manual-focus-only macro lens set wide open at f/2.8. (Normally I don't pay much attention to this setting and rely on EXIF to tell me, but since this lens doesn't record that in EXIF, I had to just pick one and adjust other settings to compensate. It was a good exercise for me!)

Although I shot this primarily as a technical study, I really liked the way the green-on-green shallow DOF was looking. It was just a bit much, and so I decided to go monochrome and then recover the spirit of that greenness through some creative re-coloring. I liked the way the grasshopper's details really pop in monochrome.

This is beautiful macro work, soft and delicate but still full of tiny details. The shallow depth of field gives it such a dreamy, almost otherworldly feeling, and the muted tones make it even more elegant. Beautifully seen and captured. Congratulations on the win, kanaj! 🫶🏻
