This is the sweeping Lost Pines countryside of Bastrop County, Texas. In September 2011, this area was ravaged by one of the worst wildfires in the state's history, with hundreds of acres destroyed. For many years, skeletal trees like the ones visible in this horizon were the eerie, dominant feature of the countryside. But now, many years later, the loblolly pines have begun to mature and reclaim this verdant land. Although most of the dead trees have now fallen, there still remain a few tall, cindered sentinels rising against the horizon to remind us of the devastation and its cost.

This seems like the sort of thing Adams might have documented.
