 I know there have been an abundance of excellent hummingbird entries this year. I really enjoy photographing them and this capture seemed entry worthy because I have not seen a submission with his eyes closed and was different than the others. It looks like he is savoring the nectar from the flower before his long trip to Central America. The "blink" is caused by a nictitating membrane which is clear and wipes the eye of debris and moistens it during flight. I have read that it moves at 60 miles per hour and can only be seen with high shutter speeds.

Congratulations, I gave you a 10 and I am glad I did. I saw this image exactly as you described it and you gave me the viewer the view/picture to do that. For me this is a incredible shot and gift to the viewer. Such special and beautiful birds. Thank you!
