another forum response, I would agree with oggi about the physical lack, I also made the connection but others would not, Also ones attempt with humour can backfire as my " schooldays" entry showed me, we live ,learn and grow a thicker skin.

This is in response to your forum post - I rated this an 8, as I thought your photo was quite good and I picked up on the connection to pets and their people pretty easily. Like other people have said, the lack of a pet probably was what brought you down.

I was actually surprised to see this photo rate so low in the challenge. But I guess you can't please everyone.

I do believe that the lack of a pet is what inspired the low votes. If you look at the votes though, it seems as if a lot of people got the connection and gave you at least a decent vote instead of a one or two. I'd say you got by pretty easy on this one.
ps I didn't vote.

I have to say you're trying to sell your image based on the title. I believe an image should speak for itself.

Another way to present this idea could have been to include a picture of the parted pet. This I think could have had a lot of impact.

The lack of a pet in the picture could explain the number of low scores.

As far as composition goes I think you had a good idea of focusing on the frisbee (I think that's what it is).

Way too much relies on the title.

This is a very good emotive picture - I can feel it. From the technical side, I would have liked it better had the face also been in focus. I realize with DOF concerns, that probably would have meant composing differently and this is good. 8
