A piece of "waiting room art" of the kind I'm especially drawn to. This katydid was on the polished cement floor of a garage I happened into at work one day. I was astounded by its beauty, and a straight-up macro shot just wasn't doing it for me. So I decided to go for something more emotionally evocative.
Additional processing here is basically two variations of painterly filtering, layered and blended along with a high-contrast grayscale of the original macro to bring out finer details.

Hmmmm. This one stopped me in my tracks. Not sure if the frame detracts, but I love the BG and textures. Very nice. Also not sure if it's really mimicry if the BG is not like that in nature. Probably is (doesn't matter). 8
