talk about being in the right place at the right time ..
the robberfly had caught what i think is a common green bottle fly .. and had started to consume it ..

as the process goes on the prey loses it shape and starts to look like a grungy mess .. the exoskeleton keeps all the 'juice' inside ..

so getting these photos was a miracle with the timing .. :)

Asilidae seize their prey in flight and inject their victims with saliva containing neurotoxic and proteolytic enzymes. This injection, inflicted by their modified mouthparts (hypotharynx), rapidly immobilizes prey and allows digestion of bodily contents. The robber fly soon has access to a liquid meal, which is generally consumed upon returning to a perched position.

hoping ppl enjoy a glimpse into the world of insects .. <3

What more can be said about your photographic talents especially when it comes to entomology. There is much to be learned about the insect world with every picture you submit. Wonderful!

and yet what a lovely world of translucency - a ballet of tensions/surface tensions.
