Tooooo Blurry...what were you thinking? Well I was thinking that this one came out best of 200 shots that I took. I cut 18" long construction paper in strips of less than an inch each. 4 colors: Red, Yellow, Green and Blue. I taped the individual strips to the grate of a fan and set the fan on high and shot away. First in a white background...yeech!... then on black. I shot several in open and closed shutter and some part way between. I liked the blur of this to show the movement and the resultant colors. Lit on the right with a clamp lamp and desk lamp behind a translucent lite disc and on the left with a clamp lamp on the top of the fan clamped to the handle. I cut back on the number of strips used from about 3-4 dozen (just not enough movement) to 16-18.
Post. Layer adjustments for levels, Brightness and Contrast, Hue and Saturation. Crop. Resize. USM.

Including ribbons in the photo itself. ;-)
I agree, this should have scored much, much higher (I gave it 9). I can imagine how much better it looks than with a white background.

from the critique club.

This is a very strong entry with good composition, great movement and lovely colors. It has all the ingredients of a ribbon image. The diagonal sweep with those vibrant colors is certainly an impressive sight to behold. While 5.9421 places it above the average, this image should have placed much higher.

The voters take many challenges too literal. That is when they specify wind they want to see something driven by the wind and this image is very much and safely within the definition as opposed to those that use wind indirectly such as wind instrument or simply wind created by fans etc. Again: here is an image that meets the challenge head on with lovely wind motion and a great visual, why did it not break the 6 mark?

I have no answer except to give you credit for this very unique entry and more ideas will sprout from your fertile mind that will eventually net you a ribbon. Keep batting away and do stay this creative, paydirt will come.

I thought ribbon for sure. I still think it is a complete winner.

I'm honestly surprised that this didn't finish higher. I was very scared that this picture would take my first blue ribbon away from me. I'm actually writing this before posting the mandated "Thanks for all your votes" post on my own image. Congrats on a great image. This is going into my favorites.

I like the colors. I think the blur adds to the image.

I'm a sucker for an image with lots of contrast and lots of color, so I like this one. It doesn't capture the theme very well for me though.

VERY COLORFUL. IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE BRILLANT COLORS I WOULD SAY IT WAS NOT VERY ORGINAL. GOOD JOB.

an excellent interpretation the image just grabs the eyre and you are tossed around in it like a toronado
