Happy shot.
Shame it wasn't a member's challenge - this has a lot more potential.
Congrats on a top 10% finish!

Yes, it's oversharpened. Yes, the stuff on the ground still has some color to it. But absolutely YES, it's 100% legal. I desaturated all the colors except yellow. If it were a member's challenge, I would have selected the umbrella and done a lot more touch-up work, but as it stands, I am really pleased that it did as well as it did. 39th place out of 395 entries still leaves me in the top 10% and that rocks! Thanks for your votes and your comments! :o)

great image! desat really pops. i'm not sure how you went about this, but there may be a way to do this under basic editing that will desat all but the umbrella, leaving the crud on the ground bw. all the same, i like this image! good luck!

I read about desaturating by color and all makes sense now. I think I was quite harsh in rating this picture. It does not make a lot of sense as it is not raining, but I should be rating photography and processing. From that point of view, I would suggest less sharpening. The effect of this shows up on left sides of shirt. . I am raising my rating to a 6.

Nice desaturation - the bright yellow umbrella on a gray day - and everything but the umbrella IS gray. I wish there were more splashing in the puddle and the umbrella were a little sharper. I like the composition with the umbrella filling the upper right corner. 6

nice pic, maybe a little bit of oversharpening though, i can see a halo around the boy's body. that really doesnt take much away though just thought i'd mention it. this is good - 7
