this is going really well .. 7.1 .. considering i feel its a pretty boring photo .. like he's just sitting there not being interesting . !! ..
but he's an extremely attractive and unusual fly which i think might be appealing to the voters .. :)

btw .. i love reading backstories from other ppl after rollover .. which is why i often put a bit of a story in my photographers comments in case other ppl like to read them too ...
also i feel it makes this site more personal and gives a glimpse into our lives and methods .. sorta ..

someone told me that most ppl are too lazy to read anything of any length and to keep it short ..

feedback on that would be appreciated .. like is anyone actually interested ..
ie. i dont really want to bother writing a whole screed if no-one wants to read it .. :)

for Jim jim29028 ..
I'm not that patient either .. i wander around looking and listening for bugs .. these particular snail parasitic blowflies have a distinctive voice ..
and they flit from one spot to another .. when one lands I squat down .. slowly so I don't scare it off .. and try and get a few shots .. they're not usually in one spot for longer than a few seconds ..
then another one might land .. and I'll try again .. most of them fly off before I've got close enough ..
but I might spend 10 minutes .. give or take .. then wander off ..
so not patient ..
and really .. they're not that hard to photograph .. stacks easier than capturing a bird in flight .. ;)

Jeez Roz, you are still crushing it! This is fantastic. You should be called Lord of the Flies. ;-) Congrats!

I really like reading your (and other's) backstories, especially the ones on macros/insects as I try to do these myself too.
(I also like it when the 'location' field is filled especially in land/cityscapes etc. of course for macro it's less relevant)

Gorgeous shot btw., I've never seen these yellow-faced flies, we don't have these here.

Congratulations
I don't know much about bugs but I can say after the exploration in the macro shots they are very intricate and specifically designed with lots of features.

WOW! I didn't even know there was such a thing! Incredible detail as usual. His yellow face almost looks like a plastic coating!

Congrats on the red.

I have never seen a fly like that! Looks like he has a Holloween mask on. Very well captured. The DOF, lighting and exposure are excellent. You are a pro!
