Challenge: Free Study 2021-02 (Standard Editing)
Camera: Nikon D7000
Lens: Nikon MF Nikkor 50mm f/1.2
Date: Feb 22, 2021
Aperture: 16
ISO: 320
Shutter: 1/250
Date Uploaded: Feb 11, 2021

This was taken with a manual focus 50 mm lens mounted in reversed position in order to obtain macro capability. The lens is high quality but normally not able to do macro. A reversal ring is a cheap solution to try it out (approx. 15 euro/usd)

Aperture is operated manually with aperture ring. The lens was fully stopped down to obtain maximum depth of field. Disadvantage is that the viewfinder gets very dark, just enough light remaining to see the subject.

Flash (from SB-600 mounted on camera) was fired.

The lens is manual focus but focus ring is not used in this setup. It has no effect. Focus is obtained by moving the camera back and forth.

So some luck was involved ...... approx. 1 in 20 pictures results in something usable.

That setup seems to get some pretty good detail. Too bad you couldn't double that shutter speed to tighten up the motion blur a bit. I do like a little motion in the wings - that's actually an interesting addition.

What a great capture! I think the bee's position is a touch awkward, but this is pretty tough to get him in exactly the right spot (I am not loving his abdomen being slightly cropped.) Nice colors and great job overall! No vote, comment only
