thankyou for your comment re the meaning of Chiaroscuro .. :)


i looked up the meaning so i'd be sure to satisfy the challenge requirements .. and then took the photo .. i didnt go archival ..

this is the definition that i found ..
"Chiaroscuro Italian for 'light-dark', in art, is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition."

also i'm pretty sure it is possible in a macro to use light to emphasise the shape of an object .. :)

Very nice but in my view more like film-noir than chiaroscuro (although there is a connection between the two). Here the strong contrast is used the make the spider jump out from the background and to show its outline, which works well, but chiaroscuro is more about using the light to emphasise the shape of the object itself, for example roundness. (Impossible in macro)
