 It's hard to do justice to this scene as it happened. Just on the other side of that ridge was a frozen Lake Haiyaha in Rocky Mountain National Park. On the other side of the lake was a steep trail up a hill ending at our destination: a couple of homemade igloos, made with kits invented by our good friend "Igloo Ed". We had been hiking a very steep back trail with no wind thru trees with the most beautiful fluffy snow falling down, when finally, we came around a bend to this opening. We could hear each other gasp in awe (not from being totally spent and out of breath, haha) when we saw it. Some of our friends spent the night camping in the igloos. My hubby and me headed back down. We are Texans, and our toes were way too cold to think that would be fun, haha! But having a celebratory beer inside the igloo... It... was... AWESOME!

Here are a couple of the igloo pictures. The first one is not mine. It was taken at night by our friend, Aleks Miesak, who was one of the brave campers - and as you might guess is also an amazing photographer!

what an incredible place to walk .. i'm just imagining a photo taken in the exact same place in different seasons .. i think summer,spring, autumn and winter would all look amazing .. would also be awesome showing time lapse photos/video accompanied by the four seasons by vivaldi .. :)
