If you look closely you can see the web in his beak. Hummingbirds are pretty tough little creatures. They only weigh as much as a dime. Their predators include cats, hawks, praying mantis, spiders and webs, and even some fish that can jump out of the water as well as frogs that can mistake a hummingbird for an insect.

stunning Larry .. should have got on the front page at least .. and interesting what you wrote about these little guys .. we dont have them in australia .. dont have squirrels either .. i'm bereft .. !! .. ;)

I do admire this photo, but rather wish that you hadn't framed so tightly. I would love it more if the humming bird were smaller in the frame. The level of detail is really good - particularly on the plumage of the far wing.
