This is far from perfect.. it's a bee I shot last July and recently found in my cell phone album. I'm sure I can do much better and no time like the present to try (maybe with some tips from Roz).

Nightfall Photography is absolutely mind-blowing! Thanks so much for the link. The detail in the insects gives us a whole new concept of what they actually look like close-up. There's so much more to the world of insects than we could ever know without the availability of a lens.

i'm very humbled Jo to read that i have inspired you ..
humbled and happy .. its a wonderful thing to have been the instrument that inspires someone to grow in their photography .. especially when it comes to insects .. as i feel they are a much maligned lot in the photographic world ..
i'm absolutely loving the bright colours in this image .. if you took this on your cell phone i can hardly wait to see what you do with your 'proper' camera ..
the other thing about bees ... is that they dont stay in one place for long .. so as an insect to photograph they are quite difficult .. altho i think that depends on the lens you use ... i use lenses where i have to be very very close .. like a few inches .. but i believe other photographers use different lenses where they dont have to be so close ..
like there's a guy .. we follow each other in instagram .. who incidentally lives in australia .. who does the most AMAZING photos of bees and other insects flying .. check him out .. and prepare to be blown away .. his website is this nightfall photography ..
but i asked him what lens he uses for his flying insects .. he uses nikon .. and i think from memory a 300mm macro lens .. i'm not sure .. but here he is in instagram .. more flying insects here ..
