my theme .. taking photos and doing stuff to them .. more or less .. and maybe experimenting a bit ..

for the March side challenge

little guy i found hanging out on a leaf in the sun .. there were a few of them flying around and not staying still for long .. he was very accommodating .. ;)
focus stacked .. not as well as i'd do for a challenge .. ;) ..
but just so the head and a bit of the wings were in focus .. otherwise if the head was in focus the wings were totally blurry .. sharpened and cropped ..

here are the originals just resized ..

just an additional comment after ozerad's .. i've never used a dead insect ... it would go against the whole reason i photograph these little creatures .. ...
altho if i wanted to use a dead insect for something dark and manipulated then that's another matter .. !!

I found focus stacking a live subject is nearly impossible. The slightest movement wrecks the whole effect.I think the people that do the extreme closeup shots use dead insects.

For some reason this reminded me of the photo you used in PP Challenge, also looking up ;)

I like the way this is focus stacked. The eyes, abdomen and front legs establish the whole, which is allowed to drift to the periphery, as a person naturally examines a detail. The perspective is engaging. I imagine this tiny creature seeing a field of thousands of me. Overall, immersive and mesmerizing.

Always gorgeous! You really know how to bring out the best in these insects. You've created a unique character with a spooky little face. Love it!

You turn insects that might be repulsive in real life or at least ignored on the account of their sizes into jewelry. If I knew how to make brooches I'd ask you for original design.
I like the first original also. Never did focus stacking. Kudos to you

Roz, your insect shots are amazing. It shows a total control and mastery over your very capable macro lens. I am completely envious of how amazing these shots are. To be honest, If I were to attempt such a macro shot, I would not choose insects. I think this is what makes your shots even more extraordinary….You shoot a subject that most people would not.
