These are in bloom at Ott's and smell so sweet. It's strange how once you smell the gardenias the fragrance stays with you. Every time I open the image of this gardenia the smell comes back to me, I can actually smell the gardenia. I don't know if it's power of suggestion or that the fragrance actually stays with you. If anyone knows the answer to why this is please comment.

Nicely presented Gardenia. People try but they rarely survive winter from Virginia north. Always a pleasant surprise to come across these in bloom. Up there with the Tea Olive for fragrance.

Yes, the smell. I enjoyed your comment. In this case the reverberating circuit is a pleasant and harmless one, unfortunately those circuits are all over our mind and they are usually not so pleasant. This image is very pure and simple.

I did some searches on this effect and evidently odors induce reverberating circuits which can persist even after you left the smell. In the case of the gardenia, the fragrance is so strong that it gets stuck in the nose. Seeing the image reactivates the smell so subtly that it's as if you're smelling the flower in the photo. I recall smelling the gardenias at Ott's once to the point the fragrance stayed with me for quite some time. Another interesting fact I learned, some florals are too fragrant. Case in point, my mother cultivated blooming jasmine on a trellis above the entrance of my parents' Florida home. One evening I brought a vase of fresh jasmine into my bedroom and that night I had to remove it because the fragrance was so overpowering it kept me awake. LOL

the power of suggestion is a very real thing ..
look at placebos .. ppl have been given placebos thinking they are taking the actual drug .. they have an improvement ..
our mind is an amazing thing ..
and smell is something very powerful indeed .. in fact 'they' say .. for remembering things .. smell can bring back to our minds things in the past much more intensely than any other of our senses ..
when you talk of the smell of those gardenias .. i can almost smell them myself .
when i see mariuca's bread postings .. i can almost smell that lovely fresh bread smell .. when i say i can almost smell it .. its like a memory rather than a 'real' smell that i can smell in real life ... if that makes sense ...

so i think its a combination of the power of suggestion and that the fragrance actually staying with you ..
we remember things that happen in our lives .. and we remember smells .. both potent in their own way ..
