I particularly like how the man is visibly going to some effort, while the ox stands almost serenely, resisting with a slight and slightly contemptuous tilt of the head

perfectly processed b&w too

you handled this perfectly. an ox on the beach. sure, that makes for a great photograph. But the great photograph has to decide how much to show, how to frame it, where to put the horizon. You do it all so perfectly that nothing distracts from ox on the beach, from the struggle of man and beast, struggling with and against

I love there is more detail in the ox and less in the person.

i've come back to see this again because before i saw it on my phone .. galaxy S8+ ..
my galaxy S9+ arrived yesterday and the first thing i did was check out the camera .. I'M LOVING IT .
but of course its not the camera .. its the person holding it who creates the magic ..
i'm hoping to create some of my own with my new phone ..
anyway .. like i said on germaines last extremely colourful post . sometimes when i see an image on my phone i can be disappointed seeing it on the pc .. like size does matter . !! .. but all your photos have the ability to wow at any size .. :)

It's a beautiful, timeless photograph. Such a peaceful backdrop that isolates your subjects nicely. I've been fortunate enough to see a few oxen in Taiwan but they don't use them for farming anymore. Reminds me of a quote I heard a while back "Should we have stayed home and thought of this place." I don't remember he wrote it but when traveling it's can enter your thoughts. Hopefully you made the right choice and took home some lifelong memories.

This photo is just Wow! You find the most wonderful things! Must be nice in the water, the ox doesn't want to come out. (Like certain dogs and children.)

Looks like the ox is being stubborn.. with those horns I wouldn't mess with him! Nice contrast of darks and lights.
