From the "thumb", the image appears to be infrared. I love the surprise when I full-size it.

Notice how he doesn't sit in one of those things, but he can sell them by just posing as one! Very nice.

a shot like this, which is naturally appealing because of high contrast with lots of black and good texture, needs a couple of extra elements to make it really special. In this case, the winner is the man's pose, specifically the way he is looking down and how this echoes the downsloping chairbacks on the right. the symbolic well on the ground doesn't hurt, either.
