Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Authority (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Panasonic DMC-FZ20
Location: San Diego Cruise Ship Terminal
Date: Nov 20, 2004
Aperture: 4
ISO: 80
Shutter: 1/125
Date Uploaded: Nov 20, 2004

Taken at the San Diego Cruise Ship Terminal during the boarding period. I wanted to take in as much of the ambience as possible since there were several things going on as opposed to focusing on one subject specifically.

Added a bit of color saturation and sharpening

Yes, there is more authority than we care to admit. Are we really that bad? lol Bumping up to 6

Nice concept, it's a little too busy to know what to focus on. It would help to have the car & checker physically more in focus than the fence.

I think this picture is too "busy" with no real message or center of interest.

where is this? please include the surrounding. the fence is confusing.

Well exposed, focused well. Theme connection somewhat weak...nothing here to really indicate border patrol.

I like the photo, but I just find it too busy. Too many objects here are little distracting.

while i like all the colors in this image, i'm having a hard time finding a subject that really stands out as authority. the composition doesn't really zero in on any one specific thing. maybe if you had swung your camera around and focused in on the guard and the cab driver?

Has a very snap shot quality to it. Almost everyone in the pic is facing away from the camera. My eyes are drawn to the yellow posts, but the guy at the car should perhaps be the focal point?

This picture shows but the persons' backs. You might have tried catching some more faces. This is where people have to pay taxes, right? How about making them tax a camera?

the yellow is really distracting for me...
I wonder if You have had problems in this challenge in EEUU...

Just fixing the slight angle would greatly aid the image.

Great color combination. There is certain focal point, so I am unsure what is the authority here. The car seems to take the focal point. The use of the bars could offer an interesting take on authority, maybe cropping tightly to the man in front of the stop sign. The artist would have to play with it a bit to see if it would work. Just a thought.
