A terrific image, busy yet spare, and I'm gathering that there's deep sadness in this woman. There's sympathy and empathy in her portrayal. Her placement at the edge of the photograph, bustling street life in the background, emphasizes her marginal situation. Yet her jacket flashes in the light. Black and white helps make this real. I have a feeling that this is not so much a defining moment as a descent. |
