Challenge: Black & White II (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Location: Townley Hall, UK
Date: Nov 10, 2004
Aperture: F 6.7
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/125
Galleries: Architecture, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Nov 16, 2004

crop/levels/shadow-highlights/greyscale
then some tweaking of the brightness and USM/RGB
(wish I could have burned the sky a little)

I may well get shot down for this, my intention was to give it a sort of lithographic look.
I am happy with the result, I just hope everyone else is.

I love the "feel" of this image..almost looks like an old guerrotype...excellent composition.

There is an effect in this image which has washed away a lot of detail. Unfortunate, as the brickwork, grass, and weeping tree would be great detaled subjects.

Great shot, but seems a little over-sharpened.

Wonderful image! A job well done! This looks like an old etching.

The effect that you used seems to make the trees blend into the building...I don't like that loss of detail.

Intriguing artistic look, I think I like it.

I think the oversharpening made it look kind of unique...This is really cool and sort of cartoony in a way... :-D

I like the subject but it appears to be way over sharpened.

the unsharp mask is overpowering

Nice framing with the tree, but compositionally, my eye just doesn't seem to settle on any one thing. Neat etched effect, though.

I don't know what effect you put on this, but it doesn't work for me

Something about the post processing does not look right here. Perhaps it over sharpenned. You may want to try re-shooting this in IR. Excellent setting for that.

I quite like the almost lithographic feel.

Looks like an interesting subject and photo, not too hot for the processing.

Perpective distorion makes it dofficult to decide an appropriate horizon angle in shots like this doesn't it? Personally, I'd prefer the see the two corner pillars perceptually vertical. It's al ovely shot though. The shade balance suits the era of the subject imo. 8. Good luck!

Looks like too much pshopping was done, or the areas aren't very well defined. Good composition though.
