Challenge: Macro Without Bugs or Flowers (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-1D Mark II
Lens: Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro for Canon
Location: Studio
Date: Nov 9, 2004
Aperture: 25
ISO: 50
Shutter: 160
Date Uploaded: Nov 9, 2004

Just a close up of my eye. The weird crop is to eleminate the huge catch light from the flash. If this was a members challenge I would have just taken it out but, no go in open challenge.

I used the Sigma 105 macro with three extension tubes on the end of it. The lighting was my 550ex on a flash cord. The flash was set to full power on the manual setting. Oh and if anyone suggests it, there was no color changingin ps of anything else. These are the colors.

there is now way that is your eye.

i mean, thats sick, and incredibly cool at the same time. you can see the individual nerves and blood vessles. thats really well done though.

not sure which way to go on this one...

could you tell?

i disagree with those that say your eye looks unattractive or unappealing so close up. the color, texture and composition are all beautiful. i love it. great job.

That one scary amount of detail you got there. Looks like something from an optometry textbook. 7 for the extreme close-up.

Holy geez.... Did you take that through a microscope?! Great details... oh man, I've never seen an iris that close up. Talk about macro photography. Great closeup.

Now that is a closeup of an eye! Very nice.... and strange. Makes me want to go get a lens that can do the same thing to see what mine looks like. I looks like space nebula. Eerie.

Best of the 25 or so eye shots. good sharpness of iris processes and color is right on.

Wow. But I gotta say, not so beautiful when it's thjis close. It looks like something shreaded and pulled beyond recognition.

Excellent detail and clarity. It really makes you look at the complexity of the eye, unlike many of the other eye macros. The colour is also very appealing.

I think it whould have look better if you had croped out the white, but anyway the best eye picture so far and a solid 7.

Excellent macro, I wuld have cropped it even tighter to cut out any "white of the eye" . 8.

It will be interesting to see how long this exposure took. I think this is the best eye shot, at least so far (I think I'm at about 157/538). Good luck

Now THAT'S an eye macro! :-) I do think this shot would look better without the white in the bottom right corner, but that's a relatively minor point. This is a really outstanding photo with excellent detail.

Lots of people did eyes, but I think yours is the closest! Nice details, but (and I know this is something you can't hardly help) I don't like the pink veins at top and bottom. :)

Shame that the photo is slightly out of focus.

There has been a lot of "Eye-shots" so far in this contest, all getting bigger and and worst. I started thinking "Big is bad..." But yours convinced me that big is cool, when it's done right. Very well done, my favorite in this challenge so far (a 10). Next time a girl asks me if I think her eyes are beautiful, I hope I won't be thinking of all those little "wishbone" veins or whatever they are!

I have never ever seen a macro shot that close. You must have one wicked camera. Great composition too.

So close it's grotesque! I don't want to see what my eyes look like that close up...

Great solution to the challenge.

This is disturbing. I'm going to have nightmares. WOW. Very nice. Not really sure what else to say. I like that you placed the pupil to the upper left. Lighting seems great, and focus and clarity are definatley great. Supurb shot. My first 10 thus far. Good luck in the challenge. And wow again. ~Heather~
