The backlighting works well and the background had nice gradients, I just don't find the photo that interesting.

You did a really nice job with the lighting on this shot and with keeping hte background nice and simple. I'm curious why you cropped off the top, since I think a photo of the whole subject would probably look better. Still, very nice shot.
