Challenge: Macro Without Bugs or Flowers (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Nikon D70
Location: My dining room
Date: Nov 6, 2004
Aperture: F/8
ISO: 250
Shutter: 1/250 sec.
Galleries: Still Life, Macro
Date Uploaded: Nov 7, 2004

This really is not a macro shot, strictly speaking, but rather as close a close-up shot as my camera is capable of without a macro lens.

Made lots of raw adjustments to curves and levels, minor adjustment to white balance, then cropped and applied soft focus several times via Gaussian blur.

Really lovely shot. In my opinion, could have been a contender if somehow you had communicated the vase's small size within the photo instead of only in the title. Good luck, this may ribbon yet!

Soft focus gives this a nice wistful look and is in keeping with the subject.

Wonderful light, neat and subdues sense of soft focus suits the subject quite well. Whilst I'm certain it is a macro, it has little of the appearance of one, nor of an extreme close-up; there is little sense of scale, and I have a problem with that for this challenge. But it's a sweet shot. 6

The soft focus works well, and the image is appealing overall, but it's not really a macro or closeup.

It may be not perfect, but unlike 90% of the shots in this challenge it makes sense. Something is not right with the composition though, something bugs my eyes, but i can't explain what.

Good call on using the soft filter to get that soft focus look, it makes the image stronger. However I donĀ“t really think this is a macro but I still gave it a 7.

I like the colors and the textures but wish the lighting was brighter, can't really see much detail in the background
