 I wrestled with the idea of a calendar on fire for that date for a good long time. I kept wanting to do all kinds of cool big-world ideas and cool fx aka [user]gyaban[/user], but problems with computers made their presence known and hindered me. So this is very much a last minute entry. Simple but I trust effective and yes, I did set pages of a calendar on fire to get the burn just right! And huge thanks to Christophe for helping me figure out how to do the smoke :-)

pp: pretty simple. Crop, brightness/contrast, vibrance/saturation, muck around with layers and masking, resize, slap on some NIK, done.

An interesting image that meets the challenge well.

Nice one Susan! A very convincing job well done, Christophe's smoky tuition certainly paid dividends. The amount of burn, the flame, the smoke all work really together with your lovely selfie, all in all a most effective entry. I like your commenters remarks!

I'm starting off my voting baseline on this one at five because anyone who sets off a fire in their kitchen for a challenge deserves no less. Good thing you called the fire department. Now all you have to do is sit back and wait for them to arrive. :)
