This shot won't help my average but it was fun to shoot (low light, tripod). I'm sure I'll get a least 5 "this would have done well in the cliche challenge". Better than submitting nutin'. Kind of has a nice high key effect to it :)

I personally really like it because I love Starbucks Coffee. The closest Starbucks outlet is three 3 hours away. I buy Sumatra beans by the pound (Starbucks). Yummy.

Greetings from the Critique Club :)

Hi Jacko...

I think this is shot is very pleasing to the eye. The light seems to create a softness to the image that works very well. Coffee is a 'soothing' thing for many people. The softness of this image seems to contribute nicely to that theme. When I first saw this image, I could almost smell the coffee... This shot could easily be used for product advertisememt.

I can't really offer you any suggestions for improvement on this shot.

Keep up the good work :)

Thanks for the comments. Woohoo got over 6.0.

Interesting fact: Check out the shot from Smellyfish (20 th place). He used coffee beans like me, a cup from Starbucks like me, and we got the identical scores: 6.010.

I like the ring of beans, it looks nice against the white background. Unfortunately, the side of the coffee mug is indistinct from the background on the left side, which is kind of distracting. Also, the coffee itself, in the mug, has an odd tint to it... but from my time in the US I associate weak coffee with Starbucks, so I guess that might be why :P.

I think this picture is too flat. Its not badly arranged or taken but it needs a little something and I believe its the lighting and angle. I would've taken it from slightly over top of the cup level. - Inspzil

Would probably have touched me more if the coffee beans had been piled up and if we could have seen more of the grains texture, still nice picture!

IMO this looks a little bit over exposed. Still a good shot.

Some steam out of the cup would have been a good touch.

Mostly I like this shot, it's good focus, nice composition, color. The light is good, but I think there needed to be more light on the dark beans.

challenge met. a very pleasing composition, i can almost smell the fresh coffee beans. i like the even lighting, the lack of strong shadows and the white background. centering works well this time, and the black frame does, too, although a really dark brown could've been nice there, too. good entry! :)
