thanks for the critique, John. the 'dots' are fine water droplets. i believe a mister is too fine a spray, now.
secondly, i will try the suggestion re the light. i did have some takes with the lightsource opposite the bulb that were smoother, but none of those had as pleasing a composition as this one.

Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Mag...
This was one of my favorite shots of the challenge :) The lighting, as in all your work, is excellent and the composition is very strong as well. The subtle highlights on the leaves create some very nice eye candy for the viewer.
There are only two possible issues that I can comment on with this photo and one of them may not be fixable... First, there appears to be some dust specs on the leaves of the flower. I'm not sure what that really is and if it's 'fixable' or not, but they seem to draw a little unnecessary attention. The second issue is the exposure on the bulb of the flower. I'm sure this was incredibly difficult to work with because white attracts light :) The exposure is a tad hot. I don't have much experience with flower/studio setups yet, but I have witnessed it before. What I have seen is a lot of white cards reflecting the light to the flower rather than letting the flower receive direct light. I'm gonna try some shots like this late in the year after I grow my own callas :)

thank you for your comments .. someone said if you find a beautiful subject 95% of your work has already been done. i think that applies in this case. the flower basically shot itself :P)..
surprisingly this was a really simple pic to take. in fact im finding the more simple i get the better the results are. too bad that doesn't work at my job :P . . .

| One of my favorites this week. Shape and form are perfect, cropping is great. Simple border is very effective. Lighting is excellent on the stem and leaves, tiny bit blown out on the top of the flower. I would have clipped the small leaf in the background at the bottom left of the flower--it's a little distracting. A very nice photo-Good job! 9 |

| Nice touch having the spot light, so to speak, on the bloom. Works well here. To me this photo is very artistic and more a piece of art than a photo. That is a compliment, if you didn't recognize it. Not a 10 or ribbon winner, but a very nice piece of art, that could grace a wall nicely. |

| Well set light, although it could have benn a little brighter on the leafs. good composition and well made frame. Don't know if the water drops are needed: flower looks fresh by itself and the small drops just appers as tiny white dots. Still a very good submission. |

| Impressive photograph with a professional awareness to it. The black background is simple and makes the White color of the flower and the Green stem stand out beautifully against it. The top lighting does a fine job. You've done a great job in capturing the fine misty droplets of water against the leaves. |

| Very very nice. Perfect crop. The leaves moving out to the edge of the frame are great. Excellent lighting. I don't think you need the water - is that what all the white spots are? Petals are a tad hot, but everything else is so great that you get a 10 anyway. |
