I cannot help but think of the irony of using Expert Editing to create a Minimalist Still Life piece.

I also find it funny how Mondrian's Composition II of Red, Blue, and Yellow is a match for DPC's ribbon colors.

I had the idea for over a year now...the question was how to accomplish it. I did not want to spray paint real apples because I did not know what it would do to it (plus it is a waste of good food).

So I hit upon the idea of using plastic/wax ones. I purchased a few fake apples from a crafts store and then used the thin, black tape I used to create the backboard for Art Deco Apertiff photo back in April 2013. For the most part the tape worked great sticking on the vertical of the apples. It did not work so well with the horizontal lines popping up and sometimes bringing the vertical ones off the apple. I guess the adhesive is wearing in some places and try as I might I could not find this particular tape in stock anywhere.

So, I just went with cloning the vertical lines for the horizontal. The colors were also added in post for if you look carefully the white spray paint did not go well in some places on the fake apples.

Originally, I was going to have the backdrop also be Mondrian, but quickly abandoned the idea because it was making the scene too busy and took focus away from apples. So I kept it clean & minimalist with a combination of two photos of brushed steel and the silver paint on my husbands car.

I really appreciate the irony as well. This was very well done and you got a high score from me. The idea and execution were excellent! BTW: Love Mondrian!
