Character from a Turgenev novella. Great in color. Great shot

I do not photograph homeless people (or beggars) unless they see my camera and ask to be photographed. A rare thing. Most of them are beyond words and I feel primarily to help them somehow than photograph them. In the end, the truth is that I do neither of these two choices - most of homeless people in NYC are hard to approach and we are asked to help them through organized charity. Am not sure I fully appreciate Diane Arbus obsessive search. But your Johnny is (was) a different character

Fine portrait of a man who certainly has experienced more than I can fathom, who has the steady eye of character and integrity - at least as I see it. I wish him well.
