I thought this one was one of the top three this week. It is an excellant image and deserving of a higher ranking.

I gave it a 9. I've never given a 10 (just as I've never given a 1 though I've been tempted) and give 9s to the top 3.

Hi Mona --

A great picture. I can see why it did so well.

Technical -- the camera.

This macro shot is really good and close. I can see those fibers of dirt clinging to the iron grate. I also like that we can see a hint of what is there beyond the grate, but it is mystified by the dof which leaves us to our imagination.

Technical -- post processing.

I think that you have done a great job of cropping this photo and keeps with the sqauare theme well.

Compostion.

You have so well fulfilled the challenge theme this week. It's amazing what you have come up with so close at hand. I'm glad this isn't my "clean air vent".

Congrats on doing such a great job. The clean and simple approach works well on this site.

If cleaned before hand, this could be a fabulous shot.

Ewww. I sure hope that is an intake and not an out vent. Great detail captured and wonderful focus.

Technical: Nice DOF, colour and border
Meets challenge: Yes
Overall impression: Good tech, not sure if it's lacking interest slightly? 7

The grid is nice, but it is the dust that really makes this image. Either your grate is not consistent dimensions across the grid, or your lens wasn't parrallel and centered over the subject. The grid thickness at the far right of the image and top of the image is consistent, but not at the left and to a lesser degree on the bottom. Not really a big deal because the center of the image captures my attention with great details. Nice job and Good Luck in the challenge. 7

Love the title and dirty vent. But what is behind it. It's very distracting and ruined an otherwise very good photo for the challenge. Took it from a 7 to a 4.

A very unique grate, makes for an intense and interesting abstract. I think its the symmetry and and the textured look of the grate that keep you staring at the photo. One thing that can't be helped is the break in color in the background. If it was all grey or all pink, it wouldn't stand out. As it is, my eye is constantly drawn to it and it breaks a bit of the symmetry. Not much could have been done there. A little bit of the grate seems out of focus, but it can be my eye plauing tricks on me...after all, the grate is relatively flat and I can't see how one part of the grate can be in focus and another one not. Overall, an excellant photo with very little flaw!
