Trilobite, now about 500 million years old. It lived in the Cretaceous period, even before fishes existed. It is a fossil, embedded in a dark rock found in the Utah desert. Needed macro lens since this one is only about 1/2 inch long. On the other side of the rock are several that are about 2 mm long. The rock is black to grey, but the fossil has shades of brown. Used a tungsten lamp to bring out the color. Set it to graze across the rock to bring out texture, then added a reflector a couple of feet away to soften the shadows.

Not too sure what a trilobite is, but it sure looks very old. Good picture of it too
