Thanks a lot for the comments. This huge tree is in the backyard of the house we bought in August. The house is an old, drafty dump that has an insatiable appetite for my time and money, but I loved the tree with the ivy.

I've since learned that English Ivy, though very attractive (and not poisonous), can slowly strangle a tree by stealing water and blocking sunlight, and the leaves on branches higher up can introduce problems during wind storms and in heavy snowfall, two events coastal New England enjoys often.

So I had to snip the roots of the vines (all water is taken from the soil, not from the trunk itself). The leaves should be gone in a few months but the meandering and climbing vine shoots will remain. Very sad to have to do that, but it's safer for us and our neighbors.

Thanks again.

Cool shot, love the perspective with the grayish sky setting the colors of the tree apart. Congratulations.

Unique. The orientation adds to the illusion, making the branches look like blood vessels. Congrats Scott, well done!

Terrific shot - top score from me. Love the orientation and tones as well as the twisting lines of the main trunk. Congratulations on the HM.

Nicely done, Scott! Excellent shot - love the composition and choice of processing! Unlucky not to ribbon.

Its an artistically and technically effective shot but regrettably my head doesn't understand what you might have intended by the 90 degree rotation. 6

Love this a lot...except for two branches/twigs that keep me from giving it a 10.
