"A silhouette is dark shadow, like a silhouette of a person standing under a street lamp, or a drawing that shows only the shape of an object."

...it's the "it's not a shadow" that bothers me I think...so conclusive, so final...so sure. Funny how people choose to limit themselves.
After...
I never thought a picture of my cat sitting in a window would provoke so many reactions...I have to admit that is a sexy voting curve, lots of low votes with lots of high votes. And thanks for all the comments, I do appreciate them all...I may not agree with them, but I do appreciate them. Like I mentioned in the challenge thread, viva la diversity.
And thanks Don, I always love getting some wall space.

My top pick in the challenge. Love the pale, filmy curtain amidst all that darkness and shadow, as well as the touch of color in the flag. Exquisite image, Rachel. I'd hang this on my wall too, and it's not even my cat...
I found this completely wonderful. I'm of the opinion that silhouettes, even though there's a shadow component, really didn't fit the challenge very well. (though they just got 4s, 5s, and 6s from me -- not troll votes, since there is a shadow component)
That being said -- this was an 8 from me, and I'm kicking myself for not giving it a 9 or 10. This is so incredibly beautifully done. I could see this hanging in my family room. And I really wish it was a photo I had taken -- I'd be so incredibly proud of it.
Instead of having the whole "it's a silhouette, not really a shadow" thought -- I saw him more "hiding in the shadows". Just somehow, this one worked for me. And incredibly well. My favorite shot in the challenge. And I need to go fav it now.
Yes, but look at the 10s. I gave it a 10 myself. It is a shadow of a cat on a gossamer curtain & the only reason you can see it is the cat is blocking the light. The room is full of shadows, too. And the color is wonderful. Don't ever stop.
