i chose this photo because the mask is actually a toy found in my 5yo nephews room, while visiting him in Jacksonville. its troubling that this type of education is commonplace and necessary- so much so that gasmasks have become toys sold at the "dollar store"
subsequently, i feel it represents something far more. the cultural practices that are unfortunatelty bred in most of the homes that we are familiar, condone (if not support)-teach- ways of life that inevitably create nothing but waste. we destroy our own environment- with our actions, with our words, and with hurtful approaches (convinced that we are doing good, by ourselves and towards others)- all of the things that make life hard to breathe. Cultural Laziness, perhaps. So instead of teaching new approaches, we've discovered that wearing masks can temporarily save us- and that its just altogether easier that way. What about the longhaul? I can appreciate the irony in this image. Even if it doesn't rate high, I feel it says a lot about the state of the world.
- i take photos of my own reflection compulsively for many reasons, but for the most part in attempts to recognize the connection between myself and my changing environment. In this case, the changes that have occured , i feel, speak for themselves. |

| I'm not really 100% sure what this pic is supposed to be about, if it's a 'sign of the time' protest type pic then it would certainly benefit from a complimentary background - maybe newspaper headlines or similar, although even with that in mind I don't understand the inclusion of the camera |

| this is great! was this taken in a mirror? if so i would have cropped out the camera. nice composition the B & W works well |

| cut off object (camera?) lower right is a bit distracting, bit of an off-beat connection to "Old time" school days. Off center compostion is a plus as is B&W |

| I don't see the connection to the challenge. What do a gas mask and a camera have to do with school and education? This seems to be more a statement about the safety (and rights) of photographers in todays' world. |
