Maria, (the face behind the much maligned obscured-face toast) in her studio, with a stick of butter.

COMPOSITION
I think the composition works well in this shot. It is cropped so that her face fills the frame and the stick of butter helps to lead from the bottom of the frame up to her face. I think if anything were to be changed, it may be to allow more of her hand to show, instead of chopping it off.

TECHNIQUE
I will not mention the color except to say maybe the white balance was off? However, it seems that the butter is accurately colored. And the rest of the picture is a little off, leading me to believe it may be intentional.
I really like the color of the background, as it is a pleasant switch from the typical white or black. Also the shadow up the right side of her is a little harsh, making me think you used a flash. Since she is the only subject, and the background is empty, could you have used a smaller aperture number, and not have used the flash? OR sit a light behind her to block some of that. I really like the animated look you have captured; she looks completely natural, as if she is enjoying her typical afternoon snack!

OVERALL EFFECT
Umm, as for a picture, it looks a little contrived, BUT "got milk" shots aren't typically what you would shot for a portfolio anyway, so that factor doesn't bother me. Just mentioned because sometimes it may be better to get a little more natural. (I promise, this is just a thought and not a complaint, etc). Again, the look on her face spreads joy, I think, and I find it interesting that you have her eating butter. At least I hope you staged that and she doesn't do that regularly. A stick of butter at a time couldn't be healthy.

Whoa! Someone call the doctor! She's turning purple!!

Not sure if you noticed the pink hue here. I could be the lighting is to weak or way to strong. She has a beautiful smile. :-)

Just wondering what your white balance was set to, cause of the colour cast in this, I got this blue cast when the flash was on but the white balance was set to incandescent lighting.

This photograph has a 'strange' quality to it but the color doesn't work well for me... I'm not sure if this is intentional or not... - setzler

the coloring reminds me of some shots I took where the apature and shutter speed were not set up right.. maybe try using a priority mode instead of full manual?

I would assume this person's face isn't normally purple? ;-)

I really like the very cute idea. But what happened to your color. Too much blue. Fixing the colors or adjusting the hues will fix that. Shame too, because the rest of the photo is really good; composition, focus, crop, meeting challenge. But still it's a 5.

Hrrm.... strange colours. Looks like you used the flash, which is a nono for portraits. The expression on the woman's face seems to match the title perfectly though :).

I don't know what his expression realy means in english. In french, to be buttered, is to be perfectly out of control drunk. In the case of this person, it looks like a serious magenta overdose.

Nice idea. I'm sure you've already heard it but the model is a little too red and a little soft on focus.

Coloring is certainly original, but doesn't add to the photo in my humble opinion.

Nice to see the face this time. Funny idea and good pose, composition is good.

But the use of flash has created some very harsh hard shadows around the right side of the face and shoulder, on the right side of the nose and around the packet of butter. Diffused flash light or bounce flash would have a much better natural lighting effect. Don't know to which extent that is possible.
And you'll possibly disagree with me again, but the whitebalance is off. The color of the flash light is very blue and needs a manual whitebalance setting to create more natural colours istantly. Now the face looks violet/purple.

The colours seem way off. I'm not sure if this was the intended effect, but I don't find the purple hue on her face too flattering. The background is also strange. Nice composition, bad colou scheme. Jacko. 6

She has rather a blue tinge to her skin. You should make sure that your camera's using the correct white balance mode (sunny, cloudy, flash, flourescent light, etc). You can correct that in your paint package too.

The color in this photo is just really really harsh. She looks liek that little girl from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory that ate the blueberry flavored gum and turned into a blueberry. This woman looks purple. The shot is definately dairy related. The angle and framing/cropping are ok, and the background isn't distracting at all. But the color is really off. Good luck in the challenge.

I'm afraid the colors seem rather off - quite a bluish tint to her face...?

Cute title, very good focus, but the color seems on the purple pink side. Getting your subject further away from the wall would also help that strong shadow line. 7 Swash

Cute title, cute idea. The lighting is off=the subject is off.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think White Balance needs to be checked.
