A cynical view of politics. I've been incredibly disappointed in politicians for quite awhile now. They seem to be more interested in getting reelected than actually doing any good.

Anyway, it was the only idea I had. This shot was more about practicing lighting than anything else. I practiced with the mannequin I had on lone to try to get things set.

Backlighting the flag was difficult. Not sure how I should have done it. I tried with flash, softbox, umbrella -- everything showed through the flag as really bright spots o the flag. Ended up shooting into a reflector. There still was a bright spot, but smaller than the other bright spots, and it lit the flag nicely.

Then the problem was that my husband couldn't reach as far up with his left hand. I had everything set up, but then had to hang the flag backwards and have him salute left handed and flip the image so it was correct. :)

softbox, hair/rim light, flash with snoot to put extra light on the hand.

Not a great shot, but good practice.

hopefully we can get back to a day where we pick issues instead of sides. And the cynicism will be a thing of the past.

Excellent troubleshooting for this shot. Often times, when in the middle of the shoot, we all don't think so creatively when met with unforeseen obstacles, such as enough model flexibility to meet the vision in your head. Your stroke of brilliance is a sign of an experienced photographer, for sure.

One could only hope, Wendy.

And congrats on the HM. Your lighting is growing by leaps and bounds. You'll be the master in no time at all. Great rubbing elbows with you :)
