So, in looking through his work, what struck me most was the fact that his street photography really showed a glimpse into the personalities/souls of the people that he was shooting.
I know he used a wide angle lens, and I tried that:
and I like the shot -- but it seemed more of a typical street photography shot, and didn't show as much personality as Winogrand's shots. That's why I went with this entry. Even though the lens wasn't right, I thought the feel was better.
I really didn't want to go out and shoot this, even though I enjoyed his work, simply because we don't have good street photography in this town. So it sounded simply an exercise in frustration.
However, I had a marvelous time! I saw a girl that took her guinea pig out for a walk and fed him an apple. I loved the shadows on the brick wall, and stood there for about 15-20 minutes simply waiting for the right shadows. And I loved the guy with the dog. I held the leash while he wrapped his puppy up in the coat.
That's why I love DPC -- by making myself do shoots that I really don't want to do, I've experienced soooo much more in my photography than I ever would have without DPC. I highly recommend shooting for every challenge. Some of my favorite shots of all time are ones that I never, ever would have shot otherwise. You never know what you'll learn, experience, discover, until you go out and do it. Shooting only things you know/like keeps you in your rut. Expand! Play! Experience!
(I wish I would have had some comments... there's a couple of days left, maybe there's still a chance...)
