 A foggy morning on the ranch. We have several gorgeous trees and I knew I wanted to try to get this one emerging from the mist as the sun broke through, with the road disappearing in the distance representing the unknown ahead of us. The soft shadows and snow helped to add some interest.

Converting to a high key B&W in Silver Efex seemed to add to the ethereal atmosphere. A tiny bit of dodging and burning; I was trying to keep everything as subtle and light as possible - completely different from my Dead Flora submission. I debated whether or not to crop out the road sign but it looked better in than out so left it!

I had originally submitted a color version of some evergreens taken right into the sun which I also liked, but feel this one is actually more atmospheric and less "typical" as I figure there could be several of those kinds of images.


I have a feeling that this type of image is a "love it or hate it" deal. Fingers crossed!

I like this high key portrait of this expansive tree in its personal environment. I like how the fences and road disappear beyond the slight rise, and the sign that faces away from the viewer. Maybe it says 'NYC, 1400 miles'.
