 Lest we forget, there were some tree casualties in the December 2012 wildfire in Moraine Park, Forest Canyon and Cub Lake . While many areas have recovered quite well, there are a few other areas which were damaged more severely. Canon 5Dmk3, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, f/8, ISO 100, lens focal length 32mm, 12/20/13 3:45pm.

Such an undignified demise, fire taking advantage of their noble steadfastness. Sure, it's rampant anthropomorphism, but this fine image brings on a sadness, even knowing it's part of the natural cycle. Barring arson, that is, which brings on anger.

So sad. The sky really enhances this view. I am not sure if it is smoke or clouds but it looks like the after effects

Always sad to see these. I like bits of this image very much (the sky, the line of bare trees in the bg, the silhouettes of the two subjects), but somehow the whole thing doesn't hang together for me. Perhaps it's the composition (I tried cutting out the far right side at the shortest tree) and that seems to help
