essay, part 5:

But for this photo, I saw something happening, not sure what, and quickly took the shot. The mood of good-bye, the almost-wave, the hand separated from the arm, all of this “happened” without my knowledge. The processing, which might seem heavy to you, only accentuates what was already there. The time and place did not have this mood. These people are simply on a nature hike. So, if the mood of the piece, the “art” of the piece, didn’t come from the moment, or the photographer, or the processing, where did it come from?

Very nice. I found the processing felt like the creepy past, and the hand and arm split by the tree lumb was a nice detail.

This is like a scene out of a horror movie!

The colour of dying.

Pick a hand off your own cupboard. - I'd give it a red.

I gave it a 9 as well. I'm in the camp that sees the ominous. "No good can come of this!" my mind is shrieking. That's a very strange relationship of trunk, shadow, and arm, BTW. An eerie sort of manacling... Or IS it a shadow? Another trunk? Whatever, it's eerie...

My mark (oh yes, it's important!) was a 9 only because the silly ipad did not register the bump to 10.
It's part of my favorite shots.
Again, my mind went to Tarkovsky, and my reading was way more gentle than I read in other comments. It has to do with paving the road, with family ties, with the clearing in the forest and a slew of other symbolic elements. Life itself

Impending horror? Strength in understatement. The processing pops effectively. Voted earlier.

I gave this shot a 5. I like the ominous feel of the shot. It feels like a quickly captured shot of a potential kidnapping. The lack of clarity in any of the shot bothered me.
