essay, part 6:

I’m in no better position to answer that question than you are, but my answer is that the art comes from the person looking at it. And my role as an artist is to look for art, to find it, and to bring it out however I need to. This is easily understood for candid “street” shots, but what about “set up” shots?





original notes:

The photo immediately brought this title to mind, for whatever reason. I calculated to b/w, blended it with the original on multiply. Masked out parts of the blend to retain noise and color in the human figure. After I resized it, I sharpened a bunch to bring out some noise, then I upped the saturation for more color and noise.

I actually really like the photo and think it was executed brilliantly, but I am not seeing any grain.
