The BG picture is Birkenhead docks. There was a flying seagull
to the left of the cranes but I swapped it for two on the right. The shot of me is taken indoors with a single softbox.
I used texture overlays to make me look grimy and the general scene more industrial.
My original intention was to submit this as a colour image, then at the last minute I thought the mono version would be more evocative of bygone days.
I still like the colour version:

Thanks so much for the kind comments and votes. It was fun to do using some of my ebay gadgets like the remote wireless release and flash triggers. I'd love to try this sort of thing 'on location' for a non expert challenge but of course there's a lot less hassle using PS.
For the portrait shot I used manual mode and a 30 year old Nissin flashgun in a brolly-style soft box.

seems too super-imposed to be a single capture. it's the light on the face when the sun is behind but still 'out'....doesn't seem realistic.
