 This image was taken inside a slot canyon near Page, Arizona. This canyon is more like a giant crack in a large rock formation rather than a canyon in the traditional sense. It is about 100 (30 meters) feet high or so.

The colorful rock is called Navajo Limestone and is unique to that area. The canyon is formed by flash flood erosion and is very narrow and deep.

Natural light filters in from the sky above to illuminate the walls of the canyon. The colors comes from light reflected off multicolored rock walls. The golden color comes from light off canyon walls in direct sunlight at the top.

Slot canyons are fascinating and sometimes dangerous places to photograph.

A couple miles from this location is Lower Antelope Slot Canyon. 11 people on a tour got trapped and drowned during a flash flood there in 1997. Where I took this picture I was told that the week before a flash flood came through and raised the floor level by 5 to 6 feet! Both events are unusual, but do happen.

The world doesn't get much more complex than this, and you captured the essence of the canyon well. Nice use of light (in a setting that could present lighting challenges) and an angle that's pleasing to the eye. Good luck!
