Inspired by some LalliSig entries I decided to try and emulate one of his shots.

Lighting - Flash triggered remotely to fire at a white wall behind the camera (acting as a giant softbox in front of me. Flash triggered 2 softboxes either side of me and slightly behind me about arms width apart. White sheet stretching from the top of one softbox to the top of the other one to act as a reflector shining down on top of my head (didn't have a 3rd softbox). Silver reflector held by me facing up to add a little light to the bottom of the chin.

Editing - used the frequency separation method found here. Summary - spot edit small skin blemishes. Dodge and burn to increase contrast and slight facial carving. Convert to B&W. Resize and sharpen.

Thanks for all the positive comments and kind votes. I did have some fun doing this shot and hope to do some more portraits soon. Will try organise a better looking model next time - might have helped the score :-)

Excellent shot and top ten finish. Thanks for the lighting notes. It is beyond my current capabilities and equipment, but I may get there eventually.

Best shot in the challenge: clearly expresses character, not just a picture but a statement.

Scotland lose the Rugby against the Poms again? On a serious note, excellent light, focus and tones. Portrait orientation too!
