Down the hill, around the park from our last stop this one is on the corner of Haight and Buena Vista East Ave. Away from the famous "Haight-Ashbury" district by a few blocks, this building is next to one of the oldest parks in my City.
It was built in 1896 but I was unable to find the name of the architect. Now it is a four unit condo. Here's the full frontage.

These pictures give an idea of the floor plan of one of these condominiums. (Note: there is something very, very wrong about one of those photos.)
There are so many homes in my town that have been lovingly restored with brilliant colors and careful detailing. I'll likely show off lots more in this romp through "architectural oddities & embellishments."
But next week, I expect to visit the site of another of the H. C. Bauman buildings.

Beautiful building and well chosen detail. Thanks for the link to see more.

Classy building. I like the suitably compressed tonal range especially in the shadows.

I lived in a Queen Anne in college. It was a fabulous house, especially for parties, but we were all afraid to go down in the basement. That was a scary, scary place.

The architectural details take me back to a more romantic time when time moved slow and the everyday things meant something. The alignment of windows in the turret section is something that is not seen these days and the slightly open curtain adds a bit of mystery for me.

sfalice as I have said in the past, you sure know your city - you show us beautiful buildings with such character. As ursula commented, the slightly pulled back curtains add to the interest overall as I wonder if it's opened just to add a tad of light, or to just peek out to see the day.
With your wonderful street-light series from last year and now this theme, I too think you should have a place to show your shots and include the history - there is a Patch for SF and I know they would love to publish a weekly blog with these photos and history. Just a thought.

Oh to be the little girl hiding below the window sill in the tower. Ducking just in time to avoid being seen. Tea parties, soires and so much more. The story the house could tell. Gorgeous colors and beautiful details. I love how the window boxes stack to show depth.

Beautiful building and your crisp details and excellent exposure do it justice. I love the pulled back sheer - as if someone is inside looking out at us and wondering why we are looking in :)

Nice...we have a house like that near Washington Park in Albany which I always wanted to live in (it's apartments I think...I want the one with the windows at the top!)

Almost 120 years old, and meticulously maintained. Already from the outside you can see the character of the building, which is confirmed by the interior pictures in the link. In an environment like this I am sure you can feed us with interesting pictures for the entire year.

Very nice architecture on that. Old victorian style is very nice to see in such good shape!

You captured that nice rich color (how do you get the sky to stay so nicely blue for you?) you spoke of, a bldg lovingly maintained. You could write an article for the Sunday paper chronicling your explorations, if there was such a thing as a newspaper any more. I very much enjoy reading your notices & finding the details in the photos. Your photo is much much better than what's on the web (your link).
