For the past 25 years he's been South Africa's most popular artist by CD/DVD sales & chart successes. I was the official event photographer. I've strayed from my PAW Wildlife Theme this weekend as I'd like my DPC friends to see what my commercial work is about (I seldom post this aspect of my photography). 18 hour prep & shoot yesterday. I'm quite proud of this shot being hand held in near darkness without optical stabilisation & the smoke machine's clouds often blocking a usable shot. I shoot concerts/gigs in Manual Mode, no flash.
The D7000 shined but Oh for a Nikon D3 or D4 high ISO low noise sensor!

for IF Association, Love on the Mountain, Valentine, Hartbeespoort Dam, Inaugural Concert. The diagonal line is a watermark as this is a commercial image thus small A5 @72dpi low IQ.

Very little and subtle PP, Topaz Labs DeNoise, crop.

Any comment or critique; complimentary or critical are welcome and appreciated. Questions about gear, technique etc. also welcome.

Classic work. Maybe a few deep red tones would set it off even more, but it's fantastic as it is now. Good work Harvey.

Thank you so much for showing this side of your very fine photography skills - as much as I love your wildlife, it's just great to see this shot - handheld and no flash - a lot to be proud of there.

Very nice - enough detail to give us an idea of the man as bsluijk says but enough mystery to make it a piece of art. Love the blue.

I can see why you're happy with this shot. I don't know Steve, but there is so much character showing in this portrait that I imagine I know him a little better now.

Love this shot Harvey, Love the backlighting the way it just catches the mike, also the lost edges on the right. For me this is the perfect amount of light needed to get the story across without showing it all. Fantastic job. You should be proud.

WOW you ROCK! day or night. I like it that you work handheld, ambient light. I think you get a better story.

How exciting to be the official event photog. Very impressive that this was hand held and in manual mode in my opinion. You should be proud I think you did a fantastic job.
