POTW 3

Had a bit of fun with a friend of mine who wanted some shots for her blog .. I choose this one as I like that she is not smiling and looks rather serious.

Thanks so much for your comments - I didn't notices the blown pixels until they were mentioned .. that's why it's so good to do side challenges, the feedback is wonderful.

Because I have spent so much time honing skills used for wildlife shots, I am just taking baby steps when it comes to portraits and lighting and all comments and tips are very very appreciated.

Love the pops of color. The blur is perfect as it adds mystery to the photo - the kind we expect to come with these types of masks :)

Funny, for some reason the first thing that popped into my head was that she looked like a spider with those eyes on her head (I like spiders). I nicely balanced portrait and those blues and greens a wonderful.

What a fun shot! And what a fun friend! I wish I had one like her.

I really, really like it that the beads hanging from the mask are in focus at bottom! That, to me, makes this shot.

Intriguing and beguiling. Like the light, soft and sufficient. Not overdone. Defocussed areas are odd.

bsluijk - I meant to enter it but fell asleep and had a few more things to edit before submitting it .. when I finished I looked at the time and it was 15 minutes too late .. I get lost when I edit and time has no meaning.

bassbone - she is a gorgeous fungi isn't she? Cracking me up lol

nam - I don't think they make lipstick in that color .. she used eye make-up and mixed it with a pale lipstick to get that color to match her eyes.

Thanks so much to all of you for the comments - it's been a fun side challenge - back to mushrooms for next week me thinks :)

Would've been a good entry in the splash of color challenge that is now running. The resonance of blue (eyes, feathers, lipstick, earrings) on the subject brings everything together nicely.

Grand lighting, grand costume.
Glad she didn't smile what with that mouth!

A very attractive mushroom...

The makeup, the mask, the focus on the eyes...all very good elements. I am not crazy about the blurred out bits...it seems shopped more than natural.

Like this one as well. Focus on her face is great and I like the colours of mask and make-up,

I love how the color of her eyes shine, they are also very sharp.

I like it. The shallow depth of field emphasizes the mask itself, and the window light is nice. Window light, if you can get enough light, is actually a very easy way to get nice, soft light portraits. Good job.

I love how the color of her eye make up shines through the mask eye-holes and mimics the color on the feathers. It's a great shot! Minor nit ... the one row of sequins on the right is blown out a little. Very small distraction (at least for me).

Do they really make lipstick that color? Where have I been? Great colors - bet she liked it a lot.

This is a cute shot (I bet she loved it). I would never guess it was window light.

What a fun shot. I like it. Can't give much input on lighting. I too am working on that myself.
