...otherwise known as Hank. This was one of the very last pictures I took of him. A week later I had to let him go. He had kidney failure and it was so hard watching this big beautiful black cat become so sick. He was 3 feet long tip to tip and weighed nearly 20 pounds when he was in good health.

Here he is a year ago:

I brought him to the vet originally because I thought he was having dental problems, turns out it was rotten kidneys. The vet and I tried for nearly 3 months to stabilize him and we just couldn't. Henry wasn't going to do what Henry didn't want to do, like eat his kidney diet food, and eventually his sub q treatments. ( or getting "juiced" as I called it.)

He was such a bratty/attitudy cat...so many things I had to "Henry proof" every evening before I went to bed. Every morning he would wake me up by knocking my vitamins off the kitchen counter. I can't tell you how much I missed the sound of that plastic bottle crash and rattle to the floor after he was gone.

...I gotta go find a kleenex now. I sure do miss that silly cat.

Oh so sorry for you loss. But this is definitely a beautiful portrait.

Seems my cat behaves similarly ... nice story and one can interpret the aura directly from the image.

Awww. I'm so sorry. He really was a sweetheart, with a pure cat attitude. I understand why you need the kleenex.

Sorry to hear about Hank. Lost a few cats myself, so I can image your feelings.

Saying goodbye is hard. Makes me think of mine and I want to cry. Hugs to you for the passing of Hank.

Nothing like a nap in a warm place, especially when you don't feel well. We had our cat, Kira, on subQ fluids for almost a year and a half before she finally told us she'd had enough. We used to call it "watering the cat." No cat here anymore ... I'd like one. I miss purring.

Really there's little question as to who owns who with cats, and yes, their health can change on a dime it seems. I, too, will miss your Henry as he was a wonderful subject and muse to you. There is a warmth and tenderness to this shot of him. May he visit you in dreams now and then.

Ah they give us so much, funny the things you recall that fit right into their wonderful characters, sometimes you wonder who owns who and realize it is such a symbiotic relationship on many levels.

Have you gotten another cat?

I find a lot of peace in the photo...he was enjoying his little spot in the sun. I really didn't think that would be his last week...that realization comes slowly, and health can change quickly. I still have 2 kitties, but Hank was the first cat I had adopted after I had bought my first house.
